WIN! BIS Yearbook - Enter Presidential Quote Contest

Remember to pick up your Presidential Quote Entry Form in the Library. You may turn your original, inspiring quotes into the tray on Library counter at the Circulation Desk. All entries must be turned in by Wednesday, February 29th.

Ms. Gemarino along with two of her students are busy studying quotes from some of our great Presidents.

Mock Reading Rumble

Students found out what it is like to be a Reading Rumble competitor during library last week. Mrs. Schmitt used quotes from fairy tales, nursery rhymes and popular elementary and intermediate library books to hold a mock reading rumble competition. The competition was exciting as groups tried to win heart-shaped jolly rancher suckers!

We Like Our Games!

Students can be found before school, during school and after school enjoying the games in the library. We love our Books but we really like a game of uno too!

February In the Library!

Mrs. Powasnick and Library Aide, Dylan, are ready to help students checkout their favorite books and our Valentine Bear seems ready to celebrate his favorite month. With Valentine's Day coming up soon, we have noticed the romance titles seem extremely populor! Hope everyone has a great Valentine's Day!

January 2012 - Happy New Year

December was such a busy month for students in the Library. We celebrated Teen Read Week by hosting a poster contest. The American Library Association’s theme for the week and of the contest was “Picture It”. Students were asked to create a poster picturing a favorite book, scene from a book or book character. Over 60 entries were submitted and 6 posters were recognized. 1st and 2nd place winners received a free 2011-2012 BIS Yearbook. 3rd through 6th place winners received candy treats and books. Brookside students are not only wonderful readers; they are creative and talented artist!

In the spirit of the Season, the Library offered “Fine Free Holiday Wishes” during December, and all fines on late books were waived. We had lots of overdue books that have been hiding in closets, under beds and in the bottom of lockers find their way home to the library!!

Mrs. Powasnick and I are excited to be back at school and starting the new year with our Brookside kids. We love watching the students get excited about reading and listening to them talk about an author
or a book they love. Many of them told me about books they were excited to receive during the holidays. The Hunger Games trilogy is very popular.

We wish you and your family a wonderful New Year, and we hope it is a year committed to making reading a priority in your home! If we can ever help with reading suggestions, please give me a call or come by the library.
